Curriculum Mapping: Year Three of a Five-Year Plan

When we began curriculum mapping almost three years ago, we understood that it would take at least five years to make significant progress.  Much of our training focused on how to enter and search data.  Now we will focus more on how teachers can use the Atlas system to their own advantage.

Across the district, the most success is found when teachers map together and use their maps as a means to organize, share, and refine their curriculum.  The most useful maps accurately reflect the instruction that occurs in the classroom.  They are rolled over each September, and are changed as teachers make improvements and adjustments.

The content, skills, and assessments are brief, but the best maps have a deeper layer of information in the essential questions, standards, attachments, and resources listed.  These are the maps that can be invaluable resources for us and our teaching community.

It may at times seem frustrating, but relax and take it slowly.  You'll get it soon.

The technology is easy to learn, like making the transition from scrolls to books.

We know you are starting mid-year, and mapping as you go, but consider it as exciting as building an airplane in the air.
